A Slice of Pie

 Catching up......
Back to Full Blog

Miranda had her surgery this past Wednesday. It went very well. She did much better than I expected her to. She usually has a low pain tolerance and so I thought for sure she would be in a lot more pain afterward than she was. I'm sure glad she got through it all o.k. Now she will have her jaws banded shut for several weeks and absolutely no chewing at all for at least six weeks. She was having to use a syringe to get her liquids but graduated to a straw on Sunday.

I had a rough week of sinus and ear infections. I'm better now except for one of my ears still feels like it is full of cotton and has a loud ringing that is about to drive me crazy. I never had an ear infection in my life so getting one now at my age seems silly.

The facilitators and union stewards at work are having to take leadership classes. I haven't minded them to much (except for having to shift my hours around so much) because they've been very interesting and I've learned a lot. I ran across this quote in the handbook and thought it was a great one so I'm going to share it.

If a man is called to be a street sweeper,
he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted,
or Beethoven played music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry.

He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say,
here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.
Martin Luther King Jr.

I hope what ever job your doing today your giving it your best. Hugs.

Good to see you, pie.

I hope you get all those nasty germs vanquished. I has a head/throat/nose/ear thing going on last week too and still feel the lingering effects so you are not alone.

Hope you're kicking up your heels this week and we'll pray a little extra for Miranda to recover quickly so she can have something other than milk shakes...

I love the King quote by the way, that's the attitude I try to have too.

Best to you and yours,
Prank

Wow, is it really you? Gee, you have been missed but sounds like you've been a very busy girl! I hope you feel better very soon. I know all about those ear infections and they aren't fun at all.

A tip I learned from my doctor: Get a dishwashing liquid bottle (empty), fill it 3/4 full of warm water, then fill it the rest of the way with peroxide. Hold your head over the sink and squirt the warm solution as hard as you can into your ear. It cleans out the yuk from infection and you can hear better. It also helps to clear it up.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing more from you and I hope you're having a great day.

I hope Miranda heals quickly and I hope your ear infection clears up very quickly too...eeek the worst pain is an ear ache. Make sure you don't have dental problems like a bad molar or a cavity in your back teeth since sometimes that can masquerade as sinus or ear infections.

I feel sorry for Miranda. My sister and brother-in-law were involved in a serious car accident in the 80's and my sister had her jawbones fractured. She had her mouth wired shut also and had to drink through a straw as well. It was heartbreaking to see her in so much pain but just thankful she was alive!! I symphathize with you on the ear thing too. I had an inner ear infection about a couple of years ago and was sick as a dog. I was shocked as well because I hadn't had an ear infection since I was a kid. I had a horrible dizzy spell one Sunday morning where the room was spinning so bad. It made me so sick I was vomiting and I literally had to crawl to the bathroom. My boyfriend had to call the ambulance as I could not walk. I crawled out of the bathroom and lay in the hall waiting for them to come. I went to the ER at the hospital and they put me on an IV and put me in a room for about 6 hrs. They told me after I got over my infection, I could still have dizzy spells once in awhile. That infection took almost 8 wks.to go away.

Many thanks for the well wishes and prayers for Miranda. We appreciate them all. I'm a little concerned about her after I spoke to her this morning she has already lost 5 lbs. in five days. As I said before she she's a small woman anyway and can't afford to lose too much more. I am encouraging her to go for the higher calorie drinks but she said the milkshakes are to thick to suck up and if she thins them out to much they taste bad. She is drinking the nutrition drinks likes Boost and Ensure. And thats a good thing.
Thanks Pup for the advice about squirting the warm water and peroxide. I'm going to try it. I'm getting a little desperate now.
Lou my Mom used to have an inner ear condition. I can remember her getting so dizzy she had to crawl to her bed too. What an awful feeling being that dizzy would be.I hope your sister and brother-in-law are all recovered now.Hugs.

Hi Pie, I'm really glad things went well with your daughter. I've been thinking about you and how the stream seems different without you...but life goes on outside of the computer screen. I'm just so glad that it's going well for you out there. My prayers and well wishes to your daughter as she heals.
